SPECIAL MENTION
In appreciation of Dr. Miriam (MIM) Cameron’s long friendship and support for TIBETcenter, we would like to like to give a special mention about her, her work, and her involvement with the May programs in Minneapolis.
The Tibetan Healing Initiative expands the Center’s work involving Tibetan medicine and yoga in four areas: research, education, outreach and integrated care. Tibetan medicine teaches us how to create and maintain a healthy mind and body in order to live a yogic life. Yoga, union within and with the universe, is a way of life to become fully awake. The Tibetan Healing Initiative is poised to become the hub of Tibetan healing in North America.
Research
Dr. Miriam Cameron and colleagues are conducting a research study, “Integrative Health & Tibetan Medicine: Development of a Constitutional Self-Assessment Tool (CSAT) & Lifestyle Guidelines Tool (LGT).” The purpose is to create a CSAT and LGT based on Tibetan medicine and effective for use in integrated care. The long term goal of the research is to secure funding for additional studies that test the CSAT and LGT in community, educational and clinical settings; promote self-understanding and healthy lifestyle choices; lay the foundation for a research program about Tibetan healing; and contribute to healthcare reform.
Dr. Cameron engages in outreach with groups as diverse as the Men-Tsee-Khang and Sadhaka Grama Ashram in India as well as the Mayo Clinic, Woodwinds Health Campus and the Meditation Center in Minnesota. The second largest Tibetan community in the U.S. lives in Minnesota. Although only about 12 Men-Tsee-Khang graduates practice Tibetan medicine in the U.S., three live in the state and provide integrated care through the Tibetan Healing Initiative. Dr. Cameron, a registered nurse and yoga therapist, integrates yoga therapy into her work. Additionally, annual academic trips with students to India foster both international and interdisciplinary partnerships.

#01 _ DEMONSTRATION ON THU, JAN 20
Hu Jintao, President of the People’s Republic of China will be Chicago on Thu, Jan 20. Since these events involve a visiting communist leader, we must be alert to know of their “hide and ride” tactics. Therefore, the times mentioned below may change. So, please visit site on that morning for any latest information.
On Thu, Jan 20, President Hu Jintao is scheduled to visit Walter Payton High School, 1034 N. Wells, Chicago, IL 60610, where many Chinese students study. The Tibetan Community of Chicago, Madison and Bloomington will be protesting. Since he has a luncheon to attend in Washington D.C, it is difficult to plan for a more exact time. He might visit the school early evening and then head to Hilton Hotel. Please check our web site on Thursday morning.
On Thu, Jan 20 evening, President Hu will be at Hilton Chicago and Towers, 720 S. Michigan, Chicago. Who is meeting Hu there? Between 4:00 and 8:30 pm, a protest rally will be held in front of the hotel, and please join the Tibetan Alliance of Chicago [Tibetan Association in the Illinois], Chicago Chapter of the Students for a Free Tibet, Wisconsin Tibetan Association, Wisconsin Chapter of the Students for a Free Tibet, Wisconsin Chapter of the Tibetan Youth Congress, Tibetan American Foundation of Minnesota [Tibetan Association of Minnesota], Minnesota Chapter of the Students for a Free Tibet, Regional Tibetan Youth Congress of Minnesota, Regional Tibetan Women’s Association of Minessota, Indiana Tibetan Association, Tibet Independence Movement of Indiana, and Tibetan Association of Michigan.
Hu Jintao’s cruelty was well known to the Tibetans and their supporters, well before he rose to the post of the President of the People’s Republic of China. During his tenure as Party Secretary of the Tibet Autonomous Region, he used deadly force against unarmed protesters and imposed martial law in Lhasa in 1989. When he became the President, opinions varied both amongst the Tibetans and others. Some opined that out of his regret for what he had done in Tibet, the situation would relax during his presidency. Other opined that he is by nature a ruthless man, and there is no hope for Tibet during his presidency.
WikiLeaks recently released a cable sent to the State Department by an US Embassy official in Beijing about Hu Jintao, wherein it was stated that all decisions, except Tibet, are taken by consensus. It is a system that ensures that none of the Communist party functionaries becomes too powerful. But in the subject of Tibet and the Dalai Lama, China's president and Communist party general secretary Hu Jintao "is firmly in charge." In Hu's eyes, the Dalai Lama is a traitor and a separatist. Those who would prefer a milder approach on the India-based exiled Tibetan leader risk their careers, US diplomats have been told.
Please come to tell President Hu that the Dalai Lama is a problem solver. It is widely speculated that this is his last visit to the United States as the President of the People’s Republic of China. Although his days are numbered, he still has a chance to earn credit.
